Entacom Tablet is prescribed for managing Parkinson’s disease. It is mainly used to control symptoms such as muscle stiffness, tremors, spasms, and difficulty in controlling body movements, especially when symptoms reappear between doses of other Parkinson’s medicines.

This medicine is generally given along with carbidopa and levodopa. You can take it with or without food, preferably at the same time every day to maintain steady levels of the drug in your body. Taking it in the evening or at bedtime is often recommended. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully regarding dosage and duration of treatment.

If you happen to miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one—never take two doses together. Do not stop using the medication suddenly without consulting your doctor, as it may worsen your symptoms. Periodic skin check-ups may be suggested by your doctor, as this medicine has been linked to an increased risk of melanoma in some cases.

Some people may experience side effects like nausea, vomiting, tiredness, confusion, constipation, disturbed sleep, vivid dreams, sweating, dizziness, or diarrhea. Because it can cause sleepiness or sudden drowsiness, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how it affects you. It may also lead to changes in mood, unusual urges such as increased sexual desire, or hallucinations—inform your doctor immediately if these occur. A harmless but noticeable change such as brownish-orange discoloration of urine may also happen, which usually resolves after treatment stops.

Entacom Tablet works by blocking an enzyme called catechol-O-methyl transferase (COMT). This helps increase the levels of dopamine, a natural chemical in the brain responsible for controlling body movements, thereby improving mobility and reducing Parkinson’s symptoms.

Alcohol: Combining alcohol with this medicine can increase drowsiness and should be avoided.
