Lacosam 200 mg Tablet is an anticonvulsant medication used to treat focal (partial-onset) seizures in adults and children aged four years and older. Its active ingredient is lacosamide, which works by stabilizing abnormal electrical activity in the brain, helping to reduce seizures.
The typical dosage ranges from 200 mg to 400 mg daily, usually given as two divided doses. Treatment often starts at lower doses, gradually increasing as per medical guidance to minimize side effects and to achieve effective seizure control. It can be used alone or alongside other antiepileptic drugs.
Common side effects include dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, blurred or double vision, tremors, and mood changes. Serious side effects may include heart rhythm disturbances and suicidal thoughts, so medical supervision is essential.
Patients are advised not to stop the medication abruptly, as this can cause seizure recurrence. It’s important to inform the doctor about any heart, kidney, or liver problems before starting treatment. Alcohol should be avoided during therapy as it may worsen side effects like dizziness.
Lacosam 200 mg Tablet is effective for seizure control when taken as prescribed under medical supervision.
