Mesacol Suppository is a rectal medication used for the treatment of ulcerative colitis and ulcerative proctitis, conditions that cause inflammation and ulcers in the inner lining of the large intestine and rectum. It contains Mesalamine, an anti-inflammatory agent that helps reduce intestinal inflammation by blocking the production of chemical messengers like prostaglandins responsible for swelling and irritation.

It provides relief from symptoms such as rectal bleeding, pain, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort, and helps prevent flare-ups of ulcerative colitis.

Use the medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Mesacol Suppository is for rectal use only. Before application, ensure the rectal area is clean and dry. Wash your hands before and after use. Lie on your left side with your right leg bent, gently insert the suppository into the rectum, and remain in the same position for at least 30 minutes to allow proper absorption.

Common side effects may include diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, nausea, itching, or mild irritation at the application site. These effects are generally temporary. However, consult your doctor if they persist or worsen.

Avoid using Mesacol Suppository if you have severe kidney or liver impairment or are allergic to Mesalamine or similar medicines. Use with caution in the elderly. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding before starting this medicine.

Maintain a balanced, low-fat diet, include omega-3-rich foods like fish or flaxseeds, eat fiber-rich fruits and vegetables, and avoid alcohol, processed foods, and high-sugar items to support gut healing and reduce inflammation.

Store the suppositories in a cool, dry place (below 30°C), away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.
