Metrogyl-M Ointment is a topical medicine that combines two active ingredients and is primarily used to manage and treat different kinds of skin infections. It works by preventing the growth of harmful bacteria and other microorganisms, allowing the affected skin to heal more quickly.

This ointment is strictly for external application. It should be applied as per the dosage and directions given by your healthcare provider. Always wash and dry your hands before use, then apply a thin layer of the ointment only to the infected skin area. Care should be taken to avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, nose, or private areas. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Improvement may not be visible immediately, as it can take a few days or weeks for the infection to clear completely. It is important to continue using the medicine for the full course prescribed to prevent the infection from returning or becoming worse.

Some common reactions at the application site can include mild irritation, dryness, redness, itching, or a burning feeling. These side effects are usually temporary and go away on their own. Using a good moisturizer and drinking sufficient water may help reduce dryness. Severe allergic reactions are rare but require immediate medical attention, especially if there are symptoms like swelling, rashes, or difficulty breathing.

Before starting treatment, inform your doctor about any other medicines you are currently using, as well as any known allergies. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use this ointment only after consulting a doctor. Avoid scratching or touching the infected area, as this can aggravate the condition or spread the infection to nearby skin.

Metrogyl-M Ointment is often recommended for skin infections caused by bacteria, including conditions like impetigo (red sores on the face), rosacea, infected ulcers, and wounds. By targeting the bacteria and reducing the spread of infection, it helps the skin heal faster and prevents further complications. Visible improvement can often be seen within four to five days, but treatment should be continued for as long as advised by your doctor.

The medicine contains Mupirocin and Metronidazole. Mupirocin works by stopping bacteria from producing proteins needed for their survival, while Metronidazole damages the DNA of bacteria and other harmful microorganisms, effectively killing them and clearing the infection.

If a dose is missed, it should be applied as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next application, skip the missed one and continue as usual. Do not apply extra ointment to make up for a missed dose.

This medication is generally safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding when prescribed by a doctor. There are no known interactions with alcohol, driving, liver, or kidney functions. However, always follow medical advice to ensure safe and effective use.
