Olkem 40 AM Tablet is a combination medication used to manage high blood pressure. By effectively lowering blood pressure, it helps reduce the risk of future cardiovascular events such as strokes and heart attacks. The tablet contains two active ingredients—Olmesartan Medoxomil and Amlodipine—which work together in different ways to improve blood flow and reduce pressure on the heart. Olmesartan is classified as an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), while Amlodipine belongs to a group of medicines known as calcium channel blockers (CCBs). Together, they help relax blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood around the body.
This medicine can be taken with or without food, but it is best to take it at the same time every day to maintain steady levels in your system. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose based on your individual condition and how you respond to treatment. Even if you feel fine, it is important to continue taking the medication regularly, as high blood pressure often has no obvious symptoms. Skipping doses can increase your risk of complications. Lifestyle modifications such as regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, eating a low-salt diet, and avoiding smoking and alcohol can further enhance the effectiveness of this medication.
Some individuals may experience side effects when starting this treatment. Common ones include swelling of the ankles or feet, drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, headache, altered taste, upset stomach, and flushing. Other possible effects include increased uric acid or triglyceride levels, urinary tract infections, elevated liver enzymes, bronchitis, palpitations, and muscle cramps. These symptoms are typically mild and temporary. However, if any of them persist or cause significant discomfort, consult your doctor.
Before starting Olkem 40 AM, inform your healthcare provider if you have existing liver or kidney conditions or if you are dehydrated. This medicine is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless clearly necessary, as it may pose risks to the baby. Regular monitoring of your blood pressure, kidney function, and other parameters may be required during the course of treatment to ensure your safety and the effectiveness of the therapy.
Alcohol consumption should be avoided while taking this medication, as it may increase the risk of dizziness or fainting. Similarly, activities requiring concentration or coordination—such as driving or operating machinery—should be approached with caution until you know how the medicine affects you.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is near, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at the same time to make up for the missed dose.
