Sompraz 20 Tablet

Sompraz 20 Tablet is a medicine that helps in conditions where the stomach produces too much acid. Doctors often suggest it for problems like acid reflux, peptic ulcers, and Zollinger–Ellison syndrome. By lowering the acid levels in the stomach, it reduces irritation, brings relief from burning sensations, stomach discomfort, and supports the healing of ulcers. It can also be given to people who need to protect their stomach from ulcers caused by certain painkillers, especially NSAIDs. The tablet is usually taken once a day, on an empty stomach, ideally before breakfast. It should be swallowed whole with water and not crushed or chewed. Even if the symptoms ease, treatment should continue for the period advised by the doctor. For those taking it for a long duration, magnesium levels may need to be checked from time to time.

Like most medicines, it may cause some unwanted effects. These can include nausea, vomiting, headache, stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation, or bloating. Such effects are generally mild and settle as the body adjusts, but medical advice should be sought if they persist. Taking it for long periods may slightly raise the chance of bone weakness or fractures.

Before starting the tablet, it is important to inform the doctor if you have serious liver problems, a history of osteoporosis, allergy to similar medicines, or if you are on HIV treatment. Foods that tend to worsen acidity, such as spicy or oily meals, coffee, tea, and alcohol, should be limited as they can reduce the benefit of treatment. The medicine might rarely cause dizziness or blurred vision, so activities like driving or operating heavy tools should be avoided if such problems occur. It is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless the doctor decides the benefit outweighs the risk.

If a dose is missed, it should be taken when remembered, but if it is nearly time for the next scheduled dose, the missed one should be skipped. Double doses should not be taken.
