Introduction
Apixator 2.5 Tablet belongs to the group of medicines called anticoagulants, often referred to as blood thinners. It supports the prevention and management of blood clot formation in different parts of the body such as the legs, lungs, heart, and brain. By reducing the risk of clotting, it also lowers the chances of stroke and heart attack.

When it is used
This tablet is frequently prescribed for people with atrial fibrillation, a heart rhythm disorder, to reduce the risk of clot development. It is also recommended after certain surgeries like knee or hip replacement to prevent clot-related complications. It can be taken with meals or on an empty stomach, ideally at the same time every day. For some individuals, the treatment may need to continue for a long time or even lifelong.

Precautions
The dose should not be altered or stopped suddenly without medical guidance, as this can increase the risk of clotting or serious events like stroke. Along with the treatment, lifestyle adjustments such as regular exercise, eating healthy, quitting smoking, and maintaining an ideal weight can further reduce risks.

Possible side effects
The most common effect noticed with this medicine is an increased tendency to bleed, which may show up as frequent nosebleeds or easy bruising. Other reactions reported include nausea, anemia, and hematoma formation. Any unusual bleeding should be reported to the doctor immediately.

Who should avoid it
This medicine should not be taken by people with serious liver or kidney disorders, ongoing bleeding, or those already on strong blood-thinning medicines. Breastfeeding mothers are generally advised not to use it as the medicine may pass into milk.

How it works
Apixator 2.5 Tablet belongs to a class of drugs called novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs). It prevents the development of blood clots by interfering with clotting factors in the body, thereby ensuring smoother blood circulation. Unlike some older anticoagulants, frequent blood tests like PT-INR are not usually needed with this medicine.

Safety considerations
Alcohol consumption should be approached cautiously while on this tablet. Pregnant women need special evaluation by the doctor, as use during pregnancy may raise the risk of bleeding. In patients with kidney or liver disease, dosage adjustments may be necessary. Driving ability is not generally affected.

Missed dose guidance
If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered. If the next scheduled dose is close, the missed one can be skipped, but doubling the dose is not recommended.
