Femilon Tablet

Femilon Tablet is a combined oral contraceptive that contains two active ingredients. It is primarily used to prevent pregnancy and may also be prescribed to regulate menstrual cycles. This medicine works by inhibiting the release of an egg during the menstrual cycle and altering the cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it difficult for sperm to reach the uterus and for a fertilized egg to attach. In addition to its contraceptive effects, it may help reduce the risk of certain reproductive system-related cancers.

The tablet can be taken with or without meals, but it should be consumed at the same time each day to ensure maximum effectiveness. Treatment typically begins on the first day of menstruation and continues daily for a full cycle, followed by starting a new pack without interruption. If vomiting occurs within four hours of taking a dose, it may be necessary to take another tablet. In case a dose is missed and more than 12 hours have passed, additional protective measures like using condoms should be used for the next 48 hours to maintain contraceptive coverage.

Some individuals may experience side effects such as nausea, headache, breast tenderness, stomach discomfort, irregular menstrual bleeding, or slight weight gain. While these symptoms are generally mild and tend to resolve as the body adjusts to the medication, any persistent or severe effects should be reported to a healthcare provider. Spotting between periods or missed periods can also occur and are usually not a cause for concern unless they persist. However, symptoms such as leg swelling, chest pain, difficulty breathing, or vision changes should be addressed immediately, as they could indicate a serious condition such as a blood clot.

Before beginning treatment, it is important to inform the doctor if you are over the age of 35 and smoke, or if you have a history of cardiovascular issues, liver conditions, or cancers involving the reproductive organs. Other medications you may be taking should also be disclosed, as they can interfere with the effectiveness of this contraceptive. Femilon should not be taken during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Alternative non-hormonal methods may be more appropriate for nursing mothers, particularly in the early postpartum period. Routine monitoring of blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and blood sugar may be recommended while using this medication.

If a dose is missed, you should follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. The effectiveness of the contraceptive can be reduced if tablets are skipped, so timely intake is crucial for maintaining continuous protection.
